Findenser™

The Greener Alternative to Water Condensers

Conventional reflux condensers are used for syntheses under reflux and the tubing they require takes up a lot of space. It is not uncommon for the tubing to snap off due to the water pressure or for leaks to occur, causing major damage in the laboratory.

From now on refluxing can happen without water!
The Findenser™ is a high performance condenser and replaces the need for water-cooled condensers in over 95 % of all reflux reactions.

Patented design:

The Findenser™ consists of a glass column and a finned aluminum housing jacket. A small amount of encapsulated thermal fluid that is located between the glass column and the aluminum jacket transfers the heat from the glass to the finned aluminum jacket.
The heat generated in the process is then dissipated to the outside via the innovative structure of the aluminum fins. The large surface of the aluminum fins thus guarantees an excellent heat transfer.
When used in the laboratory fume hood, the Findenser™ offers a cooling capacity that is in no way inferior to water-cooled systems.

Your advantages in the laboratory:

Leading Safety Standards
No danger of leaks or flooding – the Findenser™ is also suitable for continuous operation, for instance overnight

Superior Ease of Use
Easy handling, no tubing – the Findenser™ is easy to assemble, offers more space in the laboratory fume hood and a highly flexible use

Reduced Cost of Ownership
No water connection required, no water consumption – the Findenser™ is resource-friendly and inexpensive

There are two Findenser™ models available:

Findenser™ Standard (400 mm) and Findenser™ Mini (275 mm). The different lengths are suited for the following solvent volumes:
Findenser™ for solvent volumes of up to 1 liter
Findenser™ Mini for solvent volumes of up to 125 ml

Each Findenser™ model is available with different ground glass cones / sockets, suitable for the glass flasks commonly used in the laboratory.
Findenser™: B19, B24, B29
Findenser™ Mini: B14, B19, B24

Understanding the air cooled reflux system

Increased requirements on safety and sustainability in the chemical laboratory have been the trigger for the development of new reflux condensers without water cooling.
With the Findenser™, Heidolph offers an efficient, air cooled reflux system, too.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of reflux condensers?
What are the general aspects to consider when buying one?

The Heidolph 'Reflux Condenser Buyer’s Guide' answers the most important questions you may have.

FAQ

It depends on how you are intending to use vacuum ...

Findenser is resistant to the majority of solvents and splash-resistant to dilute acids and alkalis at room temperature ...

A flow of inert gas (e.g. nitrogen) through the flask will encourage evaporation and may reduce performance of the Findenser ...

Since most hemispherical heating mantles do not allow precise temperature control, their use is not recommended.

B joints are standard joint sizes in many countries. B joints are also sometimes referred to as ‘NS’ joints instead, so e.g. B29 (B29/32) is the same as NS 29/32, and B24 (B24/29) is the same as NS 24/29 ...

No, the fins are rounded and not sharp-edged. There is no risk of injury.

The fins are very sturdy and can only be bent with great effort. However, bent fins do not have a negative effect on the air condenser’s performance.

It cannot be assumed with certainty that the design would still be stable enough. For the majority of applications, an adapted temperature control (10 - 15 °C above boiling point) is perfectly adequate.

The calculated surface area of the Findenser Standard is 0.45 m² while the Findenser Mini offers a calculated surface area of 0.22 m².

More important than the factor room temperature is the fact that the Findenser is used in the fume hood. The regular air exchange ensures that heat is dissipated to the required extent.
